Does Hollywood want original ideas for movies or are they content with recycling!

Question: sure as long as people keep buying tickets and sure nothing is "truly original" but most of this stuff is just ridiculously trite. I'd like to think there was a market for GOOD new ideas but I dont know about that.

So would producers and studios take risks on original concepts or stay true to what works? How long until people get totally bored of the same stuff?

What movie have you always wanted to see made?

As long as it makes money and nobody complains, they'll keep churning out the same old crap. There's lots of original ideas out there--new books, scripts, ideas--all that, but they won't get produced in Hollywood, unfortunately. Their best bet would be to get it done independently and pick up a distribution deal with one of the major studios--some of the studios have divisions (like Fox Searchlight, for example) that specialize in independents. Get it shown at a film festival (i.e Sundance, Toronto, Cannes). There are independent distributors out there as well, and don't forget about foreign producers, distributors and home video.
Any good novel or true event can be made into a movie--just try and keep it away from those whose only motive is profit. Though you still need to make money, the more important thing here is to tell the story well, and make it believable. As for me, as long as they don't make another movie based on a lame old sitcom or SNL sketch, I'll be happy.

"Hollywood id a state of mind" someone very wise once said and it's true. Sure, they SAY that they want good material, but look at all the(tepid or downright foolish remakes). The bottom line is money as always and the thinking is,why muck around with something unknown when we have this(Spiderman,Alvin&The Chipmunks you name it)that has a "built in"audience. Indie films are really making good films and you have to look often(at least until they turn a profit)but they're out there

I was just thinking about this very thing earlier. Its like nothing is original anymore. Everything just seems to be a remake of something else. Where is the originality? Its the same way in music. Artist of every genre take 1 song and try to make it sound different in every possible way. I think people are already tired of it , to tell you the truth.

They're all remakes in some fashion, though they try to disguise them. For example, my wife and I just saw "The Brave One" with Jodie Foster, but that's a remake of "Death Wish" with Charles Bronson. Another example is "I am Legend" which is a remake of "The Omega Man" with Charlton Heston.
