Tim Burton.....Jeunet?!

Question: Does anybody agree that Tim Burton is completely immature in style comparing to Jean-Pierre Jeunet?

I just watched Sweeney Todd and subsequently Delicatessen. I have watched all of Tim Burton's oeuvres and I have seen Amelie, Le cite des enfants perdus et Delicatessen.

Comparing these two artists is like comparing apples and oranges. While Jeunet goes for farmland and crooked architecture, Burton goes for a very geometric, London-esque perspective. Jeunet chooses odd featured actors, while Burton goes for very normal looking actors; HOWEVER, both seem to strive for a similar 'mood'.

In Sweeney Todd, the shots taken at the sea were sooooooooooo immature. I was astonished. I usually expect high quality cinematograph from Burton. It was HORRENDOUS! The colours didn't quite complement each other (I know what I am talking about. I don't mean ' blue goes with purple, orange with red). I actually mean it. The shots were VERY poorly edited and the entire movie was inconsistent.

I do agree with you. I thought that Tim Burton did a good job on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, but his other films just weren't that spectacular, just good. But, his stop motion films like Corpse Bride and The Nightmare Before Christmas are terrific I think. I agree that he should stick to making stop motion films and leave the others to people like Jeunet.
Tim Burton is great when it comes to stop motion. I just love the characters and scenery...plus Danny Elfman almost always provides great music!
