When the original Jaws came out, there was no PG-13 rating, so it was rated PG because it clearly does not deserve R and it it too harsh for G. If it came out today, it would have been PG-13, which is the rating that I believe it deserves. There are many other older movies that would be PG-13 today, but at the time they came out, they were PG, such as "Poltergeist" or "The Beastmaster."

Jaws came out in 1975...more than 30 years ago. It was rated PG, if I remember correctly...my father had taken me and my older brother to see it.

I think these days it would be rated PG or PG-13. There have been many other movies since Jaws that were more violent or had more "bad" language and/or sexual situations but received a PG-13 rating.
