What's up with the ending to "No Country For Old Men"?!

The Sheriff tells about his dream that he had about his father. He is retired now, and he is thinking about his life. He feels guilty that he could not save the lives of the hunter and his wife, and questions if his life was a good life.
Bad guy wins
Nobody wins, i thought the ending really sucked. I suppose it is like life, nothing ever ends all nice like the usual hollywood movies.
The sheriff feels guilty for what happened to Llewelyn and Carla Jean Moss. He retires because he seems like he can't help anymore, as evil and violence will always reign.
