Why haven't they made a movie based on "The Odyssey."?!

Question: Seriously, "Beowulf"and "Troy" was made and the best one of them all isn't.Im very annoyed. I know there was an old version but with the new technology i think it could be one of the best movies ever made because theres so much action and imagination to it that it would just be crazy enough to work.I know "The Odyssey" is 900 pages long almost and one of the most confusing books anyone will ever read besides "The Bible" But doesn't anyone agree with me that a new version should be made? And if "The Odyssey" can't be made cant they just narrow it down to "The Adventures of Ulysses?"

I think it is too long and complex a story to really give it proper justice. I certainly wouldn't mind sitting in the theater watching a 4 hour film, but many people will, so its a matter of cutting away from a brilliant piece of writing. As you say, they can always narrow it down to a specific story line. There are just sooo many characters and plots it would be incredibly hard to choose one. I think one day, they will make it, but it needs the perfect visual director for this job. I estimate that within the next 5 years something like it may come along...

"O, Brother, Where Art Thou?" is based on "The Odyssey".

Hallmark made a 2 part mini series starring Armand Assante as Odysseus in 1997 with some very big names in the cast as well. It was a big budget production. Maybe there is a script that's is being work on as we speak in the big studios that we don't know about? who knows?

Ulysses starring Kirk Douglas (1955)

Yeah, I know the one with Armand Asante that Hallmark did. I'm sure someone will eventually make it into a BIG production...
