I Am Legend was better than Omega Man. The advances in special effects make the difference. Also Lord of the Rings was much better than the movie length cartoon done many years ago. Lastly I thought King Kong was better than the original.

I love the new Hairspray! I think the message was much more clear and the acting so much better(although Divine made a great Edna Turnbladt!). I also like the film version of Phantom of the Opera, Memoirs of a Geisha, I Am Legend, Batman Begins, and the Lord of the Rings were better too.
Ben Hur with Charleton Heston over the silent version. The silent version is great but sound really improves it.
The Thing over The Thing from Another World. Again the original was really good, but the later one had a darker edge to it that improved it, I think.
Spiderman with Tobey McGuire is certainly better than the campy movie from the 70s or 80s.
There are several I like as well (though not better). Magnificent Seven and Seven Samurai are both classics. Dawn of the Dead. Cape Fear. The Lion in Winter. Red Dragon and Manhunter.

The first one with the Rat Pack is good but the re-make was more interesting to me.
Mel Brooks original movie 'The Directors' was hilarious, but his musical remake is absolutely his best work. Just my opinion.
