Has anyone heard anything about the new Hobbit movie?!

Question: Will it still have the original LOTR actors in it (Ian Holm, Ian Mckellen, etc)? And is it going to be directed by Peter Jackson?

Peter Jackson is producing and co-writing the films but not directing them. Guillermo del Toro ("Pan's Labyrinth," "Hellboy") has been approached about directing. One film will recount the events in Tolkien's "The Hobbit" (including how the ring came to be in Bilbo's possession), and the other will fill in the 60-year gap between the events of that book and those in the LOTR trilogy.

Movie has not been cast yet, but they'd have to do a lot of makeup/CGI to make Ian Holm look young enough to play Bilbo, at least in the first movie, so I suspect they'll go with a younger actor. Ian McKellen could still play Gandalf, and I imagine Jackson will try to cast him again.

Now that New Line is being absorbed by Warner Bros., there's still some question as to how many (if any) of the projects that the studio was developing will continue to go forward. But Warners will almost certainly continue developing the Hobbit movies, since they're almost guaranteed blockbusters.

We've reported on the "Hobbit" development saga extensively at EW. Check out our coverage at the links below, and keep visiting EW.com for breaking news..

Yes, that it won't be directed by Peter Jackson, thank goodness.

i did .... the hobbit bok was good. you should read it if u liek reading

all i heard is its gonna be two movies shot concurrently like the trilogy was

I don't know about the actors..but I read an article about it a few months ago in EW...

and it said something about the people that own the rights to it only wanted peter jackson to direct it.

But other possibilities for directors were

Sam Raimi (I think that would be a horrible choice...even though I love evil dead..he's just too corny)

and the guy that directed Pan's Labyrinth...(which I think might be interesting) Guillermo del Toro

It would still be Peter Jackson to directed it. I here it was about the adventure of Bilbo Baggins!! before and after he get the ring!! So probably most of the character are not included in this movie!!
