--SPOILER ALERT!-- What is you interpretation of the ending of No Country For Ol!

Question: Why did the movie end like that? I think many viewers probably expect to see some grand showdown at the end. But nothing happened.

Why do you think they ended it like that? Why the car crash for the villain?

What was the film all about?

The movie ended like that to be different. Sometimes a happy ending does not make for a good, compelling story. Tommy Lee Jones' dreams didn't really have anything to do with the plot of the movie, that was just added for depth.

The car crash at the ending was random as well, I don't think it really had anything to do with the main story as well. It had the crash and Anton walking away to kind of show that nothing can stop evil sometimes.

The film was about how violent this country is in general, and how some people think that its just been getting worse and worse, when in reality its always been chaotic.

What I interpreted the ending as, went something like this.

Production Office: Come on, we need your movie by 5:00

Coen Bros.: But, we still have another half hour to shoot.

Production Office: Don't care, need it now"

Coen Bros.: Whatever, just have Tommy Lee Jones say some stuff and call it a day.

a week ago someone posted this same question, I'll post again my same asnwer.

:
There is really nothing complicated about the ending, many people complain that they did not get it...

the good guy dies ( Moss ) , the bad guy leaves ( Chigurth) and the sheriff kind of explains in his two dreams that he istelling his wife , that he will be judged for his mistakes in life , he feels responsible for the death of Moss and his wife Carla.

the movie illustrates the violence in texas....not all of America... I don't have numbers relating to the amount of violence exists in Texas, but Texas has the highest rate of death penalties, and the last state to ban lynching....I personally think the violence perpetrated by the state reflects the acceptable level of violence by the society....Texas loves to use the death penalty, so do the people... That's what Chigurh's character portrays...
