Star Wars: The Clone Wars? I am confused!?!

Question: Is it true that is George Lucas is making another Star Wars movie? I thought Star Wars 3 was the last movie going to be made. Rite? Tell me if the new Star Wars movie is going to relate to the 2nd & 3rd movie. And plus what is the movie going to be about? Is it the same cast in the 2nd half of the 3
movies?

Shoegal 67 were you refering to me ... if so thanx ... I didn't realize that my "fame" extended any farther than my own mind ... lol ...

Anyways ... Yes, Lucas is making another Star Wars movie ... kind of. It will be a full length ANIMATED feature film that will be in theaters August 15th this year. It will be the "kick off" to a new animated series that will debut this fall on CN (The Cartoon Network)

One thing about this needs to be made CRYSTAL CLEAR and it fits in with the question ... this is NOT a new "episode" of the saga ... it is a fill in the blanks kind of thing. There was a 25 chapter "series" on CN to bridge the 3 year gap between ep II and ep III. Shortly after the release of ep III rumors began to fly around the net that Lucas was going to have more of the Clone Wars "toons" made and that he was considering a live action TV show as well. True to form Lucas allowed these rumors to grow and grow until fans were in a "frenzy" and then said yep, I'm thinking about doing those two things. So for the next two years we keep hearing him say ... yeah I'm working on it ... let you know when I'm damned good and ready ... lol ... For about the last 6 months we had been hearing more and more about this but much of what was said seemed to center more on the Live Action TV show than the animated series. I own and operate a Star Wars fan site and I pride myself on keeping my "ear to the ground" and knowing things first ... Lucas pulled a fast one on all of us. Sometime in Jan I saw a blurb on aintitcool.com about a new Star Wars movie coming out. I almost immediately dismissed it as nothing but decided to read the article anyways ... when it said something about the movie being animated it got the "wheels turning" in my head that something was definitely afoot. About a week after that came the "official" announcement of the new movie and series.

Here's a couple of links about the new movie and series:

http://www.starwars.com/video/view/00062...

One of these links goes to the trailer for the movie and you can see that the animation has be upgraded BIG time. It looks really good.

As for a "when" does this occur ... well ... I haven't read it in any "official" area but from what we see in the trailer and in the info about the movie and series it is clear to see that is occurs after Anakin is elevated from the rank of Jedi Padawan to Jedi Knight ... that happened in chapter 21 of the first CN series. That will make it about a year and a half before the events of ep III ... don't hold me to that ... lol ... just a guess for the most part.

Anyways, this new stuff looks great and I can't wait for fall to get here ... I never thought I would hear myself say that because in my neck of the woods "fall" mean snow is coming ... lol ...

What about the live action TV show you ask ... that's still a go. Out of respect for the writers guild strike Lucas has been doing casting for the series in England. Now that the strike is over I'm expecting him to put the "pedal down" on this and get it in motion. I haven't heard yet of any parts that have been cast as of yet but this show is supposed to come out in the fall of 2009. This show will be set in the time between ep III and ep IV and will show the formation of the Rebel Alliance and their early battles against the Empire leading up to the events of ep IV. This show will not have any of the "main" characters from the movies in it ... maybe a little Vader and Palpatine ... there will be some of the "minor" movie characters in it but mostly characters that we haven't know before.

I hope my ramble here helps ... and to my many non-existent fans ... I thank you for your support ... as always ...

May The Force Be With You.

EDIT:

To ANTHONY D.:

It will be set in between ep II & ep III not after Return Of The Jedi ... the only thing to continue the story after ROTJ are books and comics ... so far anyways.

To EMBARGO:

You can't be serious dude ... ANYTHING that carries the "Star Wars" name on it is all hands on by Lucas. He found out what happens when he gives something his "blessing" for someone else to do when he didn't keep an eye on all the books and comics that came out right after ROTJ in '83 all the way up to 1990 ... most of these books and pretty much all the comics done by Marvel ... well in a word ... sucked. Marvel did a hell of a job trying to kill Star Wars but failed in the end. Let's not even talk about the "Ewok Xmas Special" ... it was so tramatic that I've blocked the memory out ... lol ... The simple fact is that Lucas didn't think the "toon" series done by CN was going to be a popular as it was. Seeing that most fans loved it has allowed him to tell more of the story of Star Wars and not just focus on the "Skywalker" theme of the movies. If this "venture" does as good as it probably will I think we will see much more of the Star Wars EU put into animation.

To TALLULAH411; SEANEDDY1; & SCOTT D:

It's going to be a movie and a TV series ...

It will take place after return of the Jedi so none of the new cast will be in it.

Don't get too excited. The new movie is just going to be animated, not in theaters.

Film Jedi probably knows the best and correct answer to this.
Ask him.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars is, brace yourself, a Television series. I know...

As far as I know, the series is cgi, all voice actors none of the same cast that I have seen. The series is set during the clone wars around the time of the 2nd film (SW 2 not 5).

Yes. It is a CGI animated film, it takes place between Episode II and III, the film is about the Clone Wars, and it is a precursor to the new Clone Wars series for Cartoon Network starting later this year. The film releases August 15.

It *will* have a theatrical release.

The only voices confirmed returning from the actual movies so far are Anthony Daniels as C-3PO and Matthew Wood as General Grievous.

I don't think it's even Lucas making it. I think he just gave his blessing. And it is animated. Badly

it is an animated movie and is set during the Clone Wars, and there will also be a television series.

According to Lucas it will be a animated television series AND and movie. Taking place between the SW 2 & 3.

Clone Wars is a TV Series. Computer Generated. If you go to www.starwars.com they have a little short about it. I dont really like that kind of thing, but if it was a live action Star Wars movie I would have know about it.
