well, since that stuff probably wasn't even thought of in the 50's when they made the movies... I would have to say real silk.

I'd say the latter, since Godzilla couldn't blast his way out of the cocoon. Or did he even try to use his atomic breath? I wonder if he needs a full inhalation of oxygen to do that.
