It was the last symbol of her past that she was letting go of before she died. She never told anyone about Jack, and she finally let it out. After doing that she dropped the necklace into the ocean putting it where it shouldve stayed all along. Letting it rest with jack, and taken her past away from her so she can die peacefully.
She was giving the necklace to jack I think,also her way of letting the past be in the past,.. She didn't want something that caused her bittersweet memories exchanged for money.
the first word i think of is love that movie and Rose dropped the necklace as a symbol of everything that had been lost on the Titanic.
so she could jump in the briny depths and retrieve it.. ..... oh that was that commercial where she did that
She wanted to put it where it belonged-with her past on that ship.
i dont know but i would have sold it and gave it to charity or the family.
