In Sweeney Todd, do Johnny Depp and Helena actually sing?!
Question: Like do they record the soundtrack or is someone else singing and they lip sing. Because it doesnt really sound like them. And they dont seem to be the singing type lol

It is them singing. Johnny started out singing in a band when Nicholas Cage found him and introduced him to acting so he has been a singer all along...just no one knew he was that good. He didn't even do voice lessons.
Helena wasn't sure she could do it but Tim talked her into auditioning for the casting director...she competed with the other picks and finally was caste(Tim having no say in it). After a few vocal lessons she performed perfectly.
They recorded tracks in studio then also sang on set. They used the recording to dub over any area where what was recorded on set was not strong enough to be heard...so that was them singing as you heard them...crazy awesome.

They actually do sing, but it is heavily remixed, so technically, it's not really their voices. :D
I am almost positive it's them because no one is listed in the credits as their "singing voices" and also I personally think that the voices DO sound like them.

yes they did actually sing, but it was remixed with other voices and things of that sort to make it sound like them. In reality, it was them singing, but not their voices, if you get what im saying
Yep. That's their actual voices doing the singing. In fact, Johnny Depp is well known for his pipes. He even starred in the 1990 John Waters' musical, "Cry-Baby."
