What happened to all of the MOVIE STARS? Where did they all go?!
Question: Who are the new movie stars? Where is the next Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep, Tom Cruise, Mel Gibson, Johnny Depp, etc? I use to like watching movies just because of stars that had charisma and screen personality. I don't know how other people feel, but the younger new generation of so called "Movie Stars" do not fit the title. Americans use to always look up to these people and they seemed untouchable. Now I see all of these famous people in movies, but they are not MOVIE stars ( Ex. Paris Hilton and all these Singers in movies) I don't even think Jessica Alba, Orlando Bloom, Lindsay Lohan, Reese Witherspoon (maybe), Shia LaBeouf, etc...even fit the title MOVIE STAR. They are just actors that are famous. Maybe it is because there is a lot more actors now. There use to only be 5-10 Movie stars at a time. Maybe it is because of the technology in cinema, because anyone can now tape their self and put on the internet for every1 to see. I think cinema should do holographic cinema theaters?

They WILL come along; my parents' generation thought there could never be anoter Bogart or Hepburn or Tracy, and yet, many of the people you mention are equally talented amongst the baby-boomers (of which I am one). I'm sure the next generation will produce its stars; it just takes time :-)
Yeah, I see what you mean. The same quality of acting just isn't there any more.
There are a couple of very good actors out there, and off the top of my head: Philip Seymour Hoffman... then again, he's kind of an old-timer.
Makin' babies. or in Angelina Jolies case, adopting them.
Everyone looks normal & has half the talent as some older movie stars, but I disagree with Shia LaBeouf. I think he has something to offer. I also like Claire Danes & Charlize Theron (talent-wise) As far as the men go, no one really stands out. Someone has to step it up because Tom Hanks is getting old. Plus, movies nowadays just don't have good stories. Too many remakes are being made, not enough ORIGINAL ideas.
I think the obnoxious press and paparazzi have really ruined the whole hollywood glamour thing - who wants to get into an industry where all that BS goes on. Back in the day, celebrities were more easily able to have private lives to the extent they desire, but now they cannot live their lives in peace. Also the general public seems to have an attention span of five minutes, how can a star stay a star? Holographic cinema would be really cool though, hello startrek!
I think Julia Stiles, Kirsten Dunst, Leelee Sobieski, Keira Knightly, and Kate Hudson I think are all really good contenders for this "role." Especially Julia Stiles there is something about her you just really relate to.

It seems like more and more "movie stars" are just who the general public consider 'sexy' at the time or another cute face. I too miss the days where there was actual ACTORS and ACTRESSES who did their films well and acted because that was their passion, not given roles because they were just another pretty face or a popular icon.
I think Emile Hirsch is a pretty good upcoming actor you should check his movies. It will also do you good to stay away from movies with stupid people in it. Paris Hilton does not deserve the term actress or singer. She's not even that hot. Lindsay also is going down hill.
