The guys came back to get them , discovered that the Old dog had died (Jack) and then 5 of the dogs came running over a hills and they had a big reunion. Then as they were loading up the dogs to leave, Max the little one ran away and brought Paul Walkers character to Maya who had a broke leg. They got in the cars after that and drove off.
The movie ended on a shot of a makeshift cross with two dog collars on it and dedicated it to the men and dogs that do research in Antarctica

In the true life events that the movie is based on, there were 15 dogs, and only 2 survived. I can't recall how many dogs were rescued in the movie.
