In the movie, No Country for Old Men, who ended up with the cash?!

Question: When the sheriff goes in the motel room, the villian is apparently lurking behind the door, and the sheriff glances down at the screws and vent cover on the floor. Then the scene ends and he is driving down a dirt road.

The villian appears in a later scene. So what happened in the motel room and who ended up with the money?

Anton Chigurr ended up with the money: when Tommy Lee Jones' character goes into the motel room, he sees Anton Chigurr and thinks that he is finally going to have his confrontation with him but it was only in his mind because Chigurr had already left and taken the money. When Jones' character goes to the vent shaft, he discovers that something has been taken- the money. There are different ways to interpret this scene, but the way that I explained it to you is the way that it happened in the book as well as how the director envisioned it.

the villain got the money, killed the guy's wife, drove away, got in an accident, and took the money on foot.

it is never 100% explained.

you can assume that Anton Chigurh may have gotten it, since they show the grate removed and the coins on the carpet.

but like many things in this Great movie you have to decide for yourself.

Chigurh is behind the door, yet gone when Ed Tom Bell opens the door. Again it's not explained but I'm guessing that was what the Sheriff was thinking b4 he opened the door. When he enters the bathroom, it clearly shows the window latch closed, so he didn't go out that way.

In the book this encounter is much longer and different.

many things, in fact this whole movie is for you to decide.

what things mean to you.

don't let anyone tell you "this is" what the the end or anything else means.

they are only guessing.

Anton, presumably
