Is it just me or are the British funnier than Americans?!

Question: Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems that every time I watch a British comedy, I'm always in for a good time. You've got "Monty Python," "Mr. Bean," Rowan Atkinson again as "Johnny English," "The Secret Policeman's Other Ball," which is a funny movie. You can even add Simon Pegg and Co. to the list, as "Shaun of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz" were two of the funniest movies I've seen in recent years.

It seems whenever an American comedy comes out, they usually involve prat falls, fart jokes, sex jokes, more fart jokes, slapstick, stale humor, and even more fart jokes. Only on occasion will there be a funny American comedy and we mainly have Judd Apatow to thank for that. "Superbad" and "Walk Hard" were funny, as was "The 40-Year-Old Virgin."

Does anyone agree with me? Disagree?

i ? the british sense of humor i totally agree w/ u they are so much funnier then us

Its just you

they have a strange sense of humor

The Brits have the best sense of humour in the world!

the british are way funnier theyre quicker and more whitty than those lame *** yanks....look at Hale and pace, catherine tate, fawlty towers monty python, the young ones the list goes on and on and on, all well above and funnier than that american crap.... oh yeh youve obviously the The late show with david letterman omg what a joke he doesnt even make a joke and the people laugh, and the crap him and that dude in the band talk about is so pathetic to say the least my 3 yr old boy make 10 times funnier jokes than that pair of morons
:) enjoy

All you have to do is compare the British "The Office" to the American "The Office" and theres your answer.

British comedy is by far the best!!

just you

yh its true britains are funnier look at allan carr he funny as hell

i don't really know when it comes to some actors or comedians...

I think actors in america are funnier but comedians in britain are funnier.... =D

british by far,
try watching the Catherine Tate show
americas best is a guy whos last name Black

You Kongs are so ugly, you should walk backwards just to appear a bit more presentable.

That's a British joke. Is it funny to you?

I think american humor you can predict whats going to happen and still laugh but British humor is so random its great

i think the americans are funny

definatly agree,
lots of american comedy is crap and even the best american stuff is not half as good as monty python

british ppl have a very dry sense of humor..americans have a very idiotic sense of humor..we do stuff expecting ppl to laugh...british ppl do stuff to make us laugh without even trying....but I do agree with you..... :)

No, it is not just you. The British ARE funnier than the Americans.

Agree - the British especially excel at 'ironic' humour - something which Americans don't always get.

In most cases, American humour just doesn't do it for me. The only person who comes anywhere close is Mel Brookes.

i was watching Bridget Jones the edge of reason Daniel's like i cant stand going out with a woman who dosent know were Germany is and Bridget's like i know were Germany Question is do you know the location of you assss hole and and she leave and he says yeah i do and know the location of hers to haha its a hooot and another part Daniel and Bridget are having dinner and he says dose mark Dacey well say during shagging sorry but i have to c u m yeah there a lot funnier than Americans

I'm not sure, but I think may be humour doesn't travel well. I think not only each nation has different humour, but each region within that nation laughs at different things. Maybe it's the way we grow up, trying to impress friends - in that case maybe each school area has a slightly different style of humour.
I know that I've heard comedians groan when they have a booking at certain venues - they simply die - yet at others, they are a rave.

Now we are comparing, who is funnier. Finish your cookies and milk and go night, night.

i agree with you

The American comedies are like that because they are so obvious.
Its probably why they don't understand any other humour like British or even Australian because we don't make it so obvious.

I love it

Brits use comedy very subtlety so they Can make it more hilarious to watch

It all depends on your sense of humour, the americans have things they think are funny, that other people mightn't and vice versa, but i myself personally prefer english humour, its over the top hilarity, i love it especially the Monthy Python films, pure genius, Genius!!

But then theres the Simpsons and family guy, and Friends, all superbly funny.... As were Superbad, 40 year old virgin, etc.

But, i think that Americans try to hard to bring out comedy after comedy, and make a mes of all but a few... but the films seem to come naturally to the british.... Although some of america's comedians like richard pryor and gene wilder were hilarious in any of their films, but so were other comedians from Britain, eg. The Monthy Python crew....

I think that the british win by a slight margin, but comedy itself seems to be taking a turn for the worst, it has to be obscene now to be funny...

British are way funnier than Americans.
British comedians are brave enough to make fun of people in their own country, whereas the Americans have to do it about other countries and races.

I think that only the REALLY FUNNY British stuff makes it over to America. If a movie or series flopped in Britain, noone is going to distribute it here. So it kind of has a proven track record already. Since we are here we get ALL the comedies released in America and only a percentage of them are good. I daresay, the same percentage of British comedies is good, but we never get to see the bad ones!
