...sounds very much like you might be referring to the bloody late 80's horror chiller, entitled "The Outing", which was known in some forums as "The Lamp"; the film, which is on many a horror film collector's 'want' list, has yet to see release on DVD, and the tape, if you can find it, is long, long out of print...
not sure about that one, but Kazaam! was pretty evil, well, the people who released it were anyways
