Is the MPAA rating system even needed anymore?!

Question: We live in a time where network television shows everything from love scenes to gruesome violence. Do we still need a rating system on movies?

the entire system needs to be changed. i do believe there needs to be some system. But the MPAA is a horrible solution to that. Watch the documentary called This Film Is Not Yet Rated. And you'll see why.

defiently not.
it is a disgrace i say.
a disgrace~!

Yes. Parents can still use the controls on their TV to limit what their children watch. Most are just too lazy to learn how to do it or they don't watch TV themselves so they think everything is still "Leave it to Beaver." If anything, it needs to be more clear how to "block" tv shows...some easier method.

Movies - yes. Of course. There is a big difference between movies rated G and movies rated R. Perhaps the qualifications need to be re-examined (was Shrek rated G???) ...but the system is generally a good one. If there are kids in rated R movies that is the fault of the theater and the parents of the children, not the ratings system.

Parents should know what their children are doing. Ratings give them the information. How they use that information is their responsibility. We give people so many tools...but they're too ignorant, lazy, naive, etc to use them.

Good question, but i do not agree with your argument. If it were that the ratings system should be more strict, re-examined, etc...then yes, I would agree.

No. You still can find 8 and 10 year olds at an R-rated movie anyway. And as you stated there is stuff just as bad on television.
