Chiller??? Horror,Thriller or neither?!

Question: Can anyone summorise what a chiller movie?

Answers: Can anyone summorise what a chiller movie?

Chiller basically means it gives you chills. A bit more suspense and mystery than out and out horror, or at least the way horror films are done now with lots of blood & gore.

The term chiller probably began being used in films in the 1930s-1950s and horror films of that era are much different than the bulk of todays.

Thriller to me, means an action-packed drama, so I would not apply the term chiller to that.

To answer your question I would lean towards neither, or go with horror films, but only ones before 1965.

I associate it with Horror.
It relates to a frightening film or story.

just a very scary movie

Chiller is normally associated with physchologically moving films like The Shining for example

Thats a chilling film

Thriller movies are normally just action movies, something to get your adrenalin going kinda thing

Horror films i guess i kinda like The Ring, Hills Have Eyes, Hostel etc

Hope i helped you out there :]

I personally prefer films like Saw & Hostel then chilling films like The Shining and The Poltergeist

I think that except for conversationally, the word "chiller" sort of got left out in the description of a movie. Many many years ago, TV Guide didn't even use the word "Horror" to describe what type of movie was being shown in that genre. They used the word "Thriller". Of course in this day and age the word "Horror" is used almost exclusively.

In fact, another word that was used even before "Thriller" was "Melodrama". I know I'm dating myself here, but I remember loving horror movies as a kid, and in the TV guide they always used "Melodrama" to describe movies such as Dracula or Frankenstein (Heyyyy! Was Frank N. Stein Jewish? lol.) Anyway, I hope this has helped with word usage to describe movie genres.

chiller is a horror film that gives you chills, by being scary is the sense of playing on your fears rather than making you jump. they tend to be less violent, more psychological, and tends to be about ghosts. less gore and more darkness and slow, tense scenes

horror deffo -x

They're basically the same, chiller isn't really a genre because it goes with horror. Thriller is both horror and action
