I don't know why critics pick certain movies to pick on and then praise other movies that are half as good as the ones they bash. I agree with you on those movies being way underrated. Here are what the critics didn't like about these movies:

-Pear Harbor: most reviews said it was too "lumbering", also they didn't like the battle sequences, and the love story was too sappy. (I loved this movie it is, in my opinion, way better than Titanic, which got like A's from critics!...)
-The Notebook: was called a "hollywood cliche" and also they liked the book better. Some of them said Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling had no spark (!?!?!?!).
-A Walk to Remember: This movie is perhaps the most underrated by critics EVER...They called this movie "uninspired", and "forgetable". They found it too melodramatic and cheesy. (This is my favorite movie of all time, personally I think they just have something against Nicholas Sparks. Lol).
The Patriot- They called it "conventional fodder", "powerless", and had "nagging unrealities".
-Constantine It was called "murky", "overblown", "overlong", "torturously slow", they also said it has a "low energy level", and was "unemotionally involving".
-Equilibrium was called "loud", "crude", "ridiculous", "super-stupid", and "pretentious".

I don't really like to read critic review, I usually read user reviews from real people. They are more helpful ?

Dont even bother going to rotten tomatoes because there is almost no movie they will give good reviews and its just regular ppl with acounts. the only movies i have ever even seen on there with 100% are terminator and fist of legend. if u want good ratings go to imdb.com. im sure those are all good movies and definately not "underrated" because on rotten tomatoes all movies are

I think it′s because they contain some pornograhy.

Cruel Intentions - got bad reviews because the actors were too beautiful and critics are just dorks that didnt fit in with the cool kids in high school - so they prefer a great story to have rugged not so pretty people playing the parts

The Notebook - was viewed as a "chick flick" critics never like those

Constantine - i didnt like much myself - the previews made it seem better than it really was
ppl were expecting another Matrix but was a letdown in comparison

ive never seen those other ones

I don't have an explanation but take "No country for old men"'s hype , that is just business, I think is only bought publicity, the true critics are us!
All those are really good movies although Cruel Intentions is not in the level of the rest.

The bad reviews are probably just due to personal opinion. I think i've seen The Patriot, and it was quite good. I've seen Constantine and i liked it, i think its the whole supernatural thing that i like. How about you? What did you like about it? I haven't seen the others so can't really say anything. But rotten tomatoes gave my favourite film not a very good review, so dont worry about it :)

These movies got bad reviews because they are generally agreed to be bad. If you check other websites, you will likely find the same kinds of ratings.

I've seen Cruel Intentions, The Notebook, Constantine, Equilibrium, and part of Pearl Harbor. Believe me, they're bad. Even though I enjoyed Equilibrium (and even to an extent, The Notebook), they were more like guilty pleasures. It's like junk food; tastes good but there's no content.

In other words, you say you love these movies--nothing wrong with that--but can you really say that you think they deserved better ratings (and by this I mean, say, a 20% increase or more)? Were the scripts, acting, and so on, really 'good'?

Best thing to do? Ignore the critics. If you like a movie, it doesn't matter what the critics say.

first off don't go to rottentomatoes, they don't like anything there, go to imdb.
second, everyone has different taste in movies.
for example most people i know think The Godfather is one, if not, the greatest movie ever made, but i don't like it at all, but Constantine is one of my personal favorites and most the people i know hated it. It's all taste.

I loved all of these movies....im a movie buff too and have noticed that too many review sites are very off on their ratings.
