First of all, you need to be aware of the Japanese culture to understand Mr. Miyagi's emotions.
He appears serious all the time because that is the way (historically) many native Japanese appear most of the time. It is not a matter of whether or not they feel emotion, because they do, of course. Their ways and methods of showing emotion are typically in other ways, such as through art forms, such as karate and bonsai (miniature tree shaping).
Historically, Japan has been ruled by the warrior class, and showing emotion is a sign of weakness.

Due to their culture, therefore, Mr. Miyagi does not show much emotion through movie, but even the greatest warrior smiles eventually. Mr. Miyagi was truly happy for Daniel-san, and he finally let his own guard down and smiled out of joy and happiness.

I can't say that I was affected by Mr. Miyagi's show of emotion in the same manner as you, but don't let how you react bring you down. Be happy you share his emotions. Your only human, and doesn't that only mean you have a heart and are not cold?

If everyone took prozac for being happy, this world would be a very depressing place.

2 words....PRO... ZAC!

(I would vote for JOY FULL's answer if I were level 2)

Concentrate on trying to catch flies with chopsticks. That will take your mind off your emotions.
