well Ive never seen it, but yeah it DOES happen EVERY day people are used as slaves to go down mines and get the diamonds

and the word 'blood diamond' just describes diamonds that have been mined by slaves, or under bad conditons.....

you know the kanye west song diamonds are forever(or however yuo spell t) thats about blood diamonds!

Look this up on the internet if you wanna learn more, its really sad to read about though

The title refers to blood diamonds, which are diamonds mined in African war zones and sold to finance the conflicts and profit the warlords and the diamond companies across the world.

The story is based on events that have happened and are happening still.

the movie itself is not based on any actual story, but the things that go on pertaining to harvesting the diamonds and all that are true. it is happening. very good movie though

The movie didn't even touch the horror that the diamond industry has caused. Children were regularly used because they were small and could fit into small places. In terms of conflict, diamonds are usually referred to as 'conflict diamonds' due to the murder and torture that goes on in the diamond trade. There has been some headway in terms of trying to insure that diamonds currently on the market have no one's blood attached to them but no one can say this for certain. There are international laws put into place but this has only been for a short period of time. Most likely you must assume that your diamond or most diamonds on the market are 'conflict diamonds'. Tragic. 'Blood Diamond' may have used a fictional storyline but it is entirely true.
Me: former Jeweler

Yes it's based on real events that happen every day.

it's loosely based on the diamond industry of South Africa.
"blood diamond" refers the unscrupulous affairs of the cartels that control the mines.
