When filming what ways can the camera move?!

Question: How can changing camera angles change perception?

Answers: How can changing camera angles change perception?

Not so very long ago, camera movement was limited to up & down, left & right and forward & back. One of the reasons Citizen Kane is considered a classic is that Orson Welles threw out the rule book and invented new ways of creating angles and obtaining shots. You can find many books written on that topic alone.

Now the camera can move in any direction. There is a lot of standard practice that says things like a downward angle conveys a critical attitude toward characters and/or action and an upward angle implies intimacy and/or secrecy. Currently, many directors, particularly those working independently of studios, like to develop their own style of shooting so that the definitions and boundaries are blurred.

One technique I dislike intensely is circling the subject/s with the camera. To me this is highly annoying and WAY overdone.

try out different angles for the same scene.

If youre shooting a scene where the character's emotions are being shown, then do a close up.

To set the scene do a shot of the location, the camera could be rotating slowly as title comes up or jus be still.

Try out every angle you can possibly think of!

Make sure you place your camera on a tripod or flat surface, holding it can make it shaky.

the camera can be moving backwards, forwards, sliding, anything! Close your eyes and watch the film in your head. Then draw a storyboard.

if where the area needs a camera then thats it..and it depends upon the structure of the film, most of film making needs a camera to portrayed the concepts of the film...

The movement should be motivated to feel natural. Moving the camera in the shot should reveal new information or follow the action. Just moving around a scene for no purpose other than to avoid a static shot will pull the viewer out of the story as they search for meaning.
