What's this about remakes of Friday the 13th & Nightmare on Elm Street? What!

(Hmmmm!!! Just answered this one for someone, just last night, and as text-book answers go, it's pretty damn thorough, informative and definitive 'last word' accurate, so here it is, again, folks!!!)

...well, preproduction has already gotten underway, for what is being called a 're-invention' of the 'Friday the 13th' franchise; the folks over at New Line Cinema have teamed up with producer Michael Bay's Platinum Dune's production company...and Paramount Pictures, of all entities, who gave birth to the series, but passed it on to New Line when 'Friday the 13th Part 8' tanked at the box office. Supposedly, the film aspires to delve much deeper into Jason's twisted past, his relationship with his mother...even the acquisition of his iconic hocky mask, and yet, will still reportedly take off seamlessly from the last film in the series, as far as new line-up of hapless/clueless young victims, for Jason to viciously hack & slash...

...the long-rumored concept of 'Freddy vs. Jason 2', which was slated to pit our favorite psycho slashers against Ash, from the 'Evil Dead' movie franchise, has been pretty dropped completely...at least cinematically; instead, along with the previously noted re-invention of the "Friday the 13th" franchise, New Line and Platinum Dunes are also collaborating on a prequel/re-invention of the 'Freddy Krueger' film series, which like the 'Friday..." films, is supposed to delve much more specifically into Freddy's past, how and why he assumed his murderous ways, and of course, his transformation into the dream demon we all know and love....

...that's not to say that the "Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash" idea is totally dead, however; the writers, who proposed this outrageously interesting concept, have toted their wares over to DC Comics and Dynamite Entertainment, who have picked up the story, and are presently publishing the iconically fateful and campy battle between Freddy, Jason and Ash, but in a limited issue comic book form. As totally and wildly outrageous as this idea would have been on the big screen, I'm sort of hoping that enough interest in the comic book is generated, so that New Line might consider picking this thing up, once again, for film production....

...here's to keeping our fingers crossed, on this one!!!

good question
