I would assume Pitt's character would be given a more lenient sentence as there is evidence to support temporary insanity.

However, I think that he would as likely have had serious mental issues thereafter, losing a wife and a child - so a much longer sentence would await him in his own personal hell.

The argument of duress could not, in my opinion stand, as there was a moral way out for Pitt's character - however small. His own life was not put at risk, it was a play to his rage.

Good movie though.

i say he would have walked using temorary insanity as a defense.

Maybe they could when the case goes to court but I don't think Brad Pitt cared once he had lost his wife.

I'm pretty sure that under the circumstances any lawyer worth his salt would have been able to get Brad Pitt's character off.

I mean, c'mon.... a cop who kills the guy who murdered his wife, who taunted him about it in front of his partner, and who was an admitted serial killer -- that's a trifecta. No jury in their right minds would put Pitt's character in jail. He probably might even have received a commendation for taking out a killer.

In light of the current movement to protect the rights of mass murderers, killer pedophiles, and other types of criminals, as well as the number of police officers who have been convicted of crimes, it's not too far fetched to believe that B. Pits' character might have gone to prison. Obviously the better the lawyer, the better his chances would have been.
