It reminded me of another movie??!

Question: I just got back from seeing "Prom Night", which was pretty good, and before the movie, I saw a trailer for the new and upcoming M. Night Shyamalan movie, called "The Happening". That looks pretty good, too.....something about a mysterious 'happening', which is making people just drop dead. Anyways, this reminded me of another movie...a classic sci-fi movie, where the same thing happened....people all over the world seemed to just drop dead, as if something had sucked the life out of them. There were a few survivors, and they all were trying to figure out why they didn't drop dead, and everybody else did. Can someone possibly give me a clue as to what this movie was, as I would very much like to get ahold of it. Thanks in Advance!!!

Hmmmmm!!! I might just be shooting from the hip, with this one (...and I'd definitely would really like to see this Shamalan trailer, which you spoke of), but what you described, as far as the classic sci-fi premise, which you appear to be looking for, sounds very much like an early-to-mid '60's sci-fi flick, entitled "Earth Dies Screaming"...

...check out the details, below; this seems very much like what you describe...

umm..
* 28 weeks later??
* the day after tomorrow??
idk realie... i know what ur talking about.
now you have me confused too.

there are alot of movies like that and youd have to be more specific. is it possibly a stephen king movie from the 90s?

I'm guessing you mean 'The Stand' based off Stephen King's novel.
Upon reading the description intially I know I was reminded off it. However, the two have very little in common.

In "The Core", many people die at the same time, causing cars to crash and other mayhem. They learn that an EMP has caused pacemakers to cease functioning.

Another film in which the population dies almost instantly~ though the audience doesn't see this~is "The Andromeda Strain" due to a virus brought back by a space probe. I've heard that they are remaking the Michael Crichton novel. The scientists find a baby and an old man alive in a townful of dead people, and they have to figure out why they haven't succumbed. Otherwise, only suited-up scientists are safe~at least till the virus mutates further.

Honorable mention for lots of instant-dead people who turn to dust in both cases are "Where Have All the People Gone?" and "Night of the Comet". In both, people who were sheltered in some way survived. In "Night of the Comet", those with minimal exposure become rather fiendish creatures.

In "Village of the Damned", everyone in the village collapses only to awaken many hours afterward. At a later time, it is disovered that all women of childbearing age are pregnant. There are two versions based on John Wyndham's "Midwich Cuckoo".
