Question: Last I heard, which was about two or three years ago, was that Eddie Murphy had given his approval on what was supposed to be a great script, because it had the action and the attitude of the first film. Yet, as of this year.....nothin'!!! What gives???

Indeed, actor Eddie Murphy has signed off, and approved of a script which reportedly 'captures the spirit' of the original film; producer Jerry Bruckheimer was originally going to try to re-invigorate the franchise, but apparently optioned out of the plan (...not a good sign, considering he was one of the major creative forces behind the franchise). At this point, a reportedly great script is awaiting sponsorship; I am genuinely surprised that Eddie himself doesn't pick this one up, using his own production company, under the Paramount banner...
There has been little news forthcoming, and the film appears to be in development hell.
