Has anybody seen Apocolypto?!
Question: I just watched it today (Saturday), and I thought it was great. Mel did a great job with it. For those of you who have seen it, what do you think about it?
I haven't seen Passion of the Christ, but it's supposed to be good. Do you guys recommend seeing it?

i saw apocolypto on tv to. i boycotted it b/c of mel's comments. but seeing it on tv i must say i liked it. i wonder how much truth was in it as far as the slavery and lack of respect for life and sport and honor (ending where they could run free but they really weren't supposed to get away)
didn't see the Passion boycotting that one for eternity! sorry just to visually inaccurate and dumb.

I haven't seen it but I'm on the fence. While the story sounds good, I hate Mel Gibson films with a passion since he feels the need to ruin them by adding unnecessary gore. I don't have a problem in general with blood, guts, violence in films, but he goes overboard. And he adds his own personal agenda which has no place in any film.
I hated The Passion because of what he did to it. Yes it's a brutal story to begin with but he focuses on the gore, nothing else. And when he does have flashbacks to Jesus' past, they are creepy in themselves. Not to mention, if Mel knew anything at all about the lifestyle back then, he would not have "Jesus" building a modern table and chairs when everyone knew that people lounged on the floor to eat and entertain.
Love Apocolypto! As for Passion of the Christ, I have read that it is basically a 2hr torture scene. I am a die hard horror fan but I can't stomach torture...yuck. So no, I have not seen Passion and I have no plans to.
