Answers:
It depends on where you live!. If you live in Southern California, or perhaps New York City, it is a bit easier!. Elsewhere, it is probably not likely you will see any test screenings except on rare occasions!.
Well, what you call "test screenings" are usually done in or near Hollywood, by the major studios!. They are called in the industry "sneak previews"--they are sometimes a film that is tested in front of an audience, and sometimes, depending on the reaction of the viewers, they are re-edited and cut in a different way, if the film does not go over very well!. If a film is well-received, it may be given a larger budget for promotion and advertising!. If the audience fills out responses on cards, they are examined by the executives, to see what people like and dislike about the film!. Sometimes, the studios send a film out to other cities around the US, to get a feeling in Middle-America, but not usually in smaller towns!.

There are also "press screenings", in which a film is shown to film critics from newspapers, magazines, television and radio!. These also are usually show in large markets, not usually in smaller towns!. Sometimes, they have an audience, and sometimes, only the critics are invited!.

For smaller films, screenings are arranged for distributors and exhibitors (those people who book films in theaters and chains of theaters, or buy thousands of copies of DVD's for chains and rental companies), usually weeks or months in advance)!. Usually, the public is not invited, and they do not see these DVD's!.

In the last 10 or 15 years, it is quite common to have small, independent films, exhibited at various Film Festivals around the US or in Europe, in advance of general distribution to regular theaters!. These are a great place to see not only smaller pictures, but the first screenings of some major studio motion pictures as well!. Not many of us can afford to travel to Cannes for the film festival in that city in France, or the ones in Venice or Berlin, but there are others in New York, Toronto, San Francisco, and other cities around the USA!.

Now, it is quite common to have films sent to film critics on DVD, in what are termed "screeners"--but they usually are not seen by the public, for fear they will be pirated and copied, and sold illegally!.

IF you look closely in some larger cities, keep watching for advertisements in your larger newspapers for "sneak preview" films of "a major new film by a major studio", and so-forth!. Sometimes, they give you a hint of the film, or the stars who appear in it!. Then, just show up early and try to get a ticket to see the film!. Bear in mind, sometimes they are treasures!.!.!.sometimes trash!. You just take your chances, like the critics!. Good luck!.

You might take a chance and write to the major studios, and indicate your interest, and ask if they are going to have any screenings in a city near you!. Maybe someone will answer!. Maybe not!. But it is worth a try!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Usually the people who write reviews get special advanced screening passes!.
Sometimes you can get them from different ways, depending on the movie!. I'v gotten one for Final Destination 3!. I got it from the website!. Sometimes they will have them on the website, sometimes you can win them from radio stations!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
