It's been a long time (many years) since I've seen this movie but here's my best shot:
1!. Remember when the brothers were traveling by car, in this scene Charlie says: [talking to the woman who answers the door] I'm sorry ma'am, I lied to you!. I'm very sorry about that!. That man right there is my brother and if he doesn't get to watch 'People's Court' in about 30 seconds, he's gonna throw a fit right here on your porch!. Now you can help me or you can stand there and watch it happen!.
In other words, Raymond, being an autistic savant, HAS to maintain a ritualistic routine!. Otherwise, it can be very upsetting, i!.e!., vigourous rocking back and forth, yelling, beating one's self, biting one's hand and/or arm, banging on objects, etc!.

Well when he schools the casino in blackjack, knows off hand that wheel of fortune is coming on, when he guesses the amount of toothpicks that fell out, and come on; he's an excellent driver!
