!.!.!.Just how did Darth Vader die, anyway!? I mean, in 'Return of the Jedi', we see him fighting Luke, and we see Luke cut off his arm and him lying there with his hand up accepting defeat, but 1) it was his already mechanical arm that got cut off, and 2) a few minutes later, he's standing up like nothing was wrong! Then, he throws the emporor over the side, and all of a sudden, he's at death's door! What gives!? Thanx for any & all answers, thoughts & o-pinions!

Vader was injured by the Emperor's Force Lightning, when he picked him up to throw him into the chasm and save Luke!.
From the side shot, you can see the lightning hitting Vader, running through him and it looks like you can see his skeleton glowing!.
After that, he can barely stand up, and Luke has to drag his (dying) body to the hangar where the Imperial shuttle is!.
You COULD say that this is where Darth Vader dies, and his
act of sacrifice returns Anakin to life, but then we see the death of the old Anakin in the hanger!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Yeah, he died from the electric shock from the Emporer's powers!. Since Vader was pretty much all machine, the electric current short circuited his whole being, which was what what keeping him alive!. He was already dying, so Luke taking his mask off didn't kill him!. That would only have been the cause if he wasn't already injured and he left it off for too long!. So in the end it was the Emporer's shock that killed Vader!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
i think the emperor injured him with the blue bolts coming out of his hands, and what good that was left in him powered him to somehow throw emperor over the edge before he dies!.
as the post two below me says, Luke injured Darth Vader, but he died by a combination!.
1)he picked up the emperor while he was zapping Luke!.

The Force Lightning didn't help, but losing his prosthetic (fake) arm when he doesn't have ANY real limbs left (arms or legs) wouldn't bother him all that much!.
