Sorry, but you were incorrect!. He died in several pictures!. Most notably, he was nominated for Best Actor in "Sands of Iwo Jima", where he is killed!. He also is killed in "The Cowboys", by the character played by the actor, Bruce Dern!. Dern is reported to have said that when they first met on the set, Wayne said: "Ohhhh, the're gonna HATE you ! " He played Davy Crockett in the film "The Alamo", where, of course, he is killed at the final attack!. He dies in a shootout at the end of "The Shootist" as well!.
