OK, from what I understand the noises were the first clue something was in the house!. I have read several books based on factual (take it or leave it) cases that state the same!. Noises such as scratching in the wall etc!. giving the family in the home the impression that they have mice or rats!. Nothing really getting there guard up and probably never really linked to the possession at all!. Some demons, before possession, haunt a person, speak to them, move objects!. This stage is called "Obsession!."
The objects in her room were just that!. Records (remember them) books etc!.
