Question: What do you think of "The Birds"!?
I've just watched it for the first time, and found it absolutely pointless!.
There was no plot, and nothing was ever explained!. Why did the birds attack!? I've read that they were supposed to be a metaphor for this or that, but I think that's a convenient excuse!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

In the movie The Birds, Alfred Hitchcock didn't want to give any explanation to why the birds acted the way they did!. He didn't want the movie ending up a sci-fi movie than a thriller!. Although in the restaurant scene where one person mentioned why the birds are doing what they are doing, give us some sense of why, it doesn't really answer why!. There's no reason for it, it was just a vision of his when they wrote and made the film!. Using the bird (based loosely on The Birds by Daphne du Maurier's short story) as a catalyst for the plight of the characters!.
There are a lot of movies without plot, and that don't make them bad movies, in fact a lot of reputable critics has a lot of praises for those movies!. Alfred Hitchcock is the master of suspense!. His movies is mostly about the plight of the characters in a given situation!. His films, including The Birds, are still being analyzed and exemplified in film schools, as an example of good artistic cinema!.
One can use it as metaphor or ecological statement, but like in most arts, the artist let the people see it how they want to see it!. You just see it as a covenient excuse, but then again, he might have just done that, and you saw what he was intent of doing!.
