Are their nine main novels for Star Wars and if so what are they?!

Question: Are their nine main novels for Star Wars and if so what are they!?
I have heard that there are nine main novels by George Lucas about the Star Wars universe and then a bunch of spin-off books, is this true!? It is obvious what the first 6 are because they have been made into movies, but what are episodes 7, 8, and 9!? Or is this something that Mr!. Lucas would have had to have decided if he had decided to continue the series!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Star Wars is unique in many ways !.!.!. one of the biggest ways is that the movies were NOT made from books !.!.!. the books were written about the movies!. Here's some background info on Star Wars:

When Lucas first came up with the idea for "Star Wars" he envisioned it as a 12 part story that would be told in a similar fashion as the old Flash Gordon series!. It didn't take him long to realize it wouldn't work that way so it got cut down to a 9 part story!. The first trilogy was to be about the rise and fall of Anakin Skywalker!. The second trilogy was to be about the rise of Luke Skywalker and the redemption of Anakin Skywalker!. The third trilogy was to be about the "other" Skywalker that Yoda mentions in The Empire Strikes Back!.

A little known fact is that up until Lucas was almost done writing the script for ep VI Leia was NOT the "other Skywalker"!. Lucas got stumped on what he could have Vader say to Luke near the end of their duel that would make Luke attack his father in a dark side fueled rage!. To solve this problem he made Leia the "other Skywalker" and had Vader threaten her!. This change did two things: 1) Made a lot of fans go "eewwww" !.!.!. he kissed his sister on the lips; 2) It eliminated the third trilogy!. Lucas has many times stated that the story he wanted to tell has been told!. If you watch the "extras" disk that comes with the DVD set of the OT you hear him say this many times!. He says it in a 60Minutes interview he did shortly after the release of ep III!. In that interview he is asked two or three times if there will be anymore new movies and if he would let someone else pick up where he left off and make more movies !.!.!. his answer each time is that same !.!.!. NO!. History has showed us that Lucas changes his mind with the wind direction sometimes and a statement made over 2 years ago is suspect except for one thing !.!.!. his answer has never changed !.!.!. it is always a flat out NO!. If you think about it it is a big accomplishment for the man!.

Many fans point to "The Thrawn Trilogy" as 7 - 9 !.!.!. the are NOT!. These 3 books ARE the main reason that Star Wars was able to come back from the dead, so to speak, with new stories but they are not ep 7 - 9!. If you read the liner notes in each of these books what you will find is a little LucasFilm logo and the words "The official continuation of the saga" !.!.!. that is not the same as saying they are ep 7 - 9!. Could Lucas use those books as ep 7 - 9 if he wanted to !.!.!. hell yes!. These 3 books are beyond great!. The third book in the series, "The Last Command", is one of the few books that I've read that I could NOT put down!. I read it cover to cover in one sitting!. It took 7 hours, almost to packs of cigs, & 5 pots of coffee but I couldn't put it down!. Fans had been dying for new Star Wars stories but most of the stuff that came out in the early and late 80's was complete junk, and that's being nice!. The only ones worth mention are "Splinter Of The Minds Eye", a Han Solo Adventures trilogy and a Lando Calrissian Adventures trilogy!. The rest was pure Bantha Poodu!. The Thrawn Trilogy was different !.!.!. the story was great and believable and "fit" in the time line perfectly !.!.!. as you can probably guess I'm a big fan of this book series and any Star Wars books that Timothy Zahn has written!. He is the "Grand Master" when it comes to Star Wars EU (Expanded Universe) books!. The only real problem that would stop Lucas in his tracks if he ever wanted to make these books into movies is the fact that the "Big 3" of Han, Luke, & Leia are still in them!. How is this a problem well !.!.!. Harrison Ford is on record for saying many, many times that he will never play Han Solo again, Lucas had to do some fast talking to get Ford to even be in ep VI!. It wasn't that he didn't want to play the part !.!.!. the biggest problem that he has was that he didn't see anywhere that the character could go from there and that having him frozen in carbonite was how Han could die a hero but Lucas filled him in on how the story line was going to go so Ford agreed to come back for ep VI!.

Neither of these statements by Ford are made because he doesn't like the part !.!.!. he loves the part and it is in his own top 10 but he just doesn't want to play the character again!.

Mark Hamil !.!.!. he is on record for saying that he would love to once again wear the robes of a Jedi but that Lucas has told him that it's not going to happen!.

Carrie Fisher !.!.!. she hasn't really said anything about it but !.!.!. did you see her on Deal or No Deal a little while back !.!.!. if not let's just say that her days of wearing the "Metal Bikini" are far, far behind her!.

I don't think I'm alone when I say that seeing someone else in those roles just would not work !.!.!. it just wouldn't be right and, for me anyways, would pretty much ruin the entire saga!. I don't really know and I hope I never have a reason to explore the question!.

The being said there is a new Star Wars movie coming to theaters August 15th this year !.!.!. it is a full length ANIMATED movie!. One thing needs to be made crystal clear in regards to this movie !.!.!. it is NOT a new episode of Star Wars !.!.!. it is a "fill in the blank" movie set in between episodes II & III and will serve as a kick off for the new Clone Wars series set to debut this fall on the Cartoon Network!. The movie will NOT be 3D as some have said!. Lucas admits to saying 3D all the time but he is thinking of it as CG because that's what he used to call it!. However, Lucas has said that he is still considering making all 6 movies as 3D but as he states in the article, it's not as easy as he thought it would be and that he's still in the R&D for that but that it will happen someday!. Here's a couple links to stories and trailers about the upcoming movie and series:

Lucas is also working on a Live Action TV series that was to debut in the fall of 2009 but that has now been pushed back to 2010!. This series will be set in between ep III & ep IV and will show how the rebel alliance was formed and some of the early battles leading up to the events of ep IV!.

well there are 6 that were published and then about 1000 Extended Universe books started in 1991 when Lucas authorized the "Heir to the Empire" book series by Tomothy Zahn

But there has been a rumor for many years that in the early 70's Lucas wrote a book that had either 9 or 12 chapters in it!.

And when he started working on Ep 4-6 he split them up into chapters and parts!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
