In one of the opening scenes, River is shown being experimented with inside what looks like a laboratory!. Why is she there in the first place and what are they doing with her!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

She was in a school for "gifted" people that was really a training site for assassins!. A lot of this is explained in the TV show!. The movie was really just taking care of some loose ends left over after the show was canceled!.
They were cutting her amygdala (sp), which is a part of the brain used to control emotional responses and filters incoming information so she feels everything!.
There is an episode of the Firefly series where they break into an alliance hospital and Simon runs some test or her and he finds out what they did to her, but not why!. it was hinted at that she was being made into something like the agent that was hunting them in the movie!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
