Tony Stark return to his apartment to find a guy standing there (Samuel L Jackson) who asks if he thinks he is the only superhero out there!. He introduces him as Nick Fury, the director of S!.H!.I!.E!.L!.D!. And says "I've come to talk to you about the Avenger initiative"!.
And that was it!.
Which leaves it open for both Iron Man 2 and The Avengers at some point (Thor, The Hulk, Iron Man, Ant-man, Captain America, etc)
