Question: In the 1950 movie DOA there was a scene at a "jive joint" called the Fisherman!. Does anyone know the name of
the band or who any of the musicians are!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
What a coincidence--I just watched it on DVD two nights ago! As far as I can tell, they weren't a real band but were picked individually for the film!. The band members are Teddy Buckner (trumpet), Shifty Henry (bass), Ray Laurie (piano), Van Streeter (sax), and Cake Witchard (drums)!. To make matters even weirder, I just looked up Shifty Henry's biography, and he used to play college football where I currently work! Buckner had a short but impressive film career, playing musicians: PETE KELLY'S BLUES, THEY SHOOT HORSES DON'T THEY, IMITATION OF LIFE, and ST!. LOUIS BLUES!.

However, according to David Meeker's JAZZ IN THE MOVIES, all of the above were ghosted on the soundtrack by other musicians!. Meeker also notes that the soundtrack was recorded AFTER principal photography!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
