In the 70's, anyone on television was incredibly famous!. The same goes for radio!. It's not like it is today where anyone who really wants to can be on TV!.
So, newsanchors were treated like Brad Pitt and radio deejays were paid sick amounts of money (they don't make squat these days - if there's even live people there; it's usually voice-tracked)!.
