French Film, do you know?!

I recently saw a french film but can't remember the name of it, all i can remember is that it involved -

A butcher who made meat out of women, it was based in some kind its surrealist and subtitled
One of the customers of the hotel is a clown who falls in love with the butchers daughter
Theres a man sat in a room surrounded by frogs and snails and men who live underneath the hotel wearing black suits and goggles!.
and one woman is constantly trying to commit suicide but never suceeds
and the film begins with an L

I know its really far fetched but does anyone have an idea what film i mean!?
