I first saw the 1939 William Wellman-directed remake (with Gary Cooper, Ray Milland and Robert Preston) on tv back in the late '50s!. I read P!.C!. Wren's original novel a year or so afterwards--was, and is, a great romantic adventure!. I've only seen clips from the original 1925 production starring Ronald Colman, and I have seen the third version, filmed in 1966, with Guy Stockwell, Doug McClure and Telly Savalas (not that good, in comparison with the '39 film)!.
Currently, there's a DVD set of early Gary Cooper films out in DVD which includes Beau Geste---real good to have a copy of my own now!.
