I saw this awhile ago but I'm pretty sure that Cathy is Mitch's little sister!.
And I would say Melanie is the main character because the movie starts with her and follows her story as she brings the bird to Cathy!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I think Melanie is the main character!.!.!. Cathy was Mitch's little sister her name is Veronica Cartwright she played on the series Lost in Space and also played in the first Alien movies!.

I would say Melanie is the main character!.!. Mitch ends up being everybody's saviour but Melanie is the one who makes the movie really tense!. And yes Cathy was Mitch's little sister!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I watched this quite a while ago but i'm pretty sure Melanie's the protagonist - it seems that way judging by the movie poster!. And yes, Cathy is Mitch's 11 year old sister!.
