In an interview the director and writer, Bryan Bertino, spoke of the Manson murders (Helter Skelter), but it has also been said that the movie is actually based on several, similar, true stories, one other of which is the Keddie cabin murders in Keddie California (See cabin28!.com)!. After looking at all of this info myself and reading it, it does seem that the two stories are intertwined in this movie!. The Keddie story had children that were brutally murdered and I think the director knew that would be too much so decided to use adults!. All adults were victims in the Manson situation!. Except for the unborn child of Sharon Tate!. In both cases the victims did not know their murderers!. They were indeed killed by strangers (as far as the public knows)!.
