I had the same question the first couple times I watched it!.
Dottie had the pitcher throwing high hard pitches, that had up to that point, been Kit's weakness!. However, that day Kit's determination took Kit where she had never been and she hit something she could never hit before!. Therefore, it fits more with the movie to consider that Dottie did not drop the ball on purpose, rather Kit was not going to be denied because she was more much determined!. I watched this movie over 100 times when I was a kid!.!.!.they played it every day damn one summer on HBO and there were no kids in my neighborhood to play with!. In my opinion, Dottie let it go because she didn't want it as much as Kit, but I don't think she did it consciously!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
