3!. When he saw Sputnik go into orbit on TV and his Science teacher!.

4!. The boys rarely tested a single rocket per day!. They often manufactured several rockets and tested them in sequence!.

5!. in a mining town called Coalwood (in the late 50's)

6!. see explanation below:

- The rocket that hit Homer's father's office during their early testing, when they were launching rockets near the mine, was actually the last rocket of several they launched that day!.

- The location of the slat dump the rocket boys actually tested their rockets on still exists;

- a patch of barren land eight miles out of town

- and the town near the slat dump erected a replica test stand, launch pad, and "shed" after the movie brought the rocket boys story back into the public light, signifiying a launch site in each place!.

7!. Most of the town and especially Homer's father thinks he and the other "Rocket Boys" were wasting their time!. Homer is also pressured to win 1st Place in the national science fair with college scholarships being the prize!.

8!. The 'Rocketboys' send off their homemade missiles, and with the enthusiastic support of Miss Riley (the science teacher), plus a signed picture from Wernher von Braun in response to a question Homer had written him, they finally are entered in the National Science Awards competition!.

10!. College recruitersapproached Homer at the end of the science fair, the last one identified himself as being from "Virginia Tech", the real life Homer Hickam's alma mater!.
