David Lean - a Trivial Filmmaker?!

Question: David Lean - a Trivial Filmmaker!?
Technically, Lean (the cutter) is untouchable!. He also was extremely generous and also patriotic!. Unlike Hitchcock, he neither deserted his country in time of war nor kept all the royalties for himself!. His funding floated the British film industry during his lifetime and thereafter (in greater measure) His offspring have been pauperised by his generosity!.

But about the films!? Maureen Pryor accused him of being `trivial`!.

Well, possibly not trivial but for a man for whom `America` was a dirty word, the films are highly commercialised!. Forget the Fagin stereotype (we`ll blame that on Dickens); but the caricature of Lawrence along with the Technicolor closeups and wide pans!.!.!.!.this is all very Hollywood!.

So what`s your opinion of the great man!? And should we name NFT1 after him!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
Lawrence of Arabia trivial!?!?!?!?!?!?
Doctor Zhivago!?
even Ryan's Daughter!
The only criticism I have of Lean is casting Alec Guiness in non white roles which I found ludicrous!. (They did have a major fall out which lasted years)!.
I wont go on lolWww@Enter-QA@Com

Yes NFT1 should be named after him as he was a pioneer of many filming techniques and it is not true what people have said of him!. He always showed social aspects of people and this is why he was criticised all becuase he was trying to show true meaning and people couldn't handle that!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I really like David Lean, he was a superb film director!. I think the problem is that whenever someone has any great degree of success other people (usually less successful or less well known) draw the daggers out!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
