It is *not* your typical movie ending!. THAT'S WHY IT'S SO GOOD!.
If people keep harping on "geezus that ending sucked" then all the movies we ever see will have the guy getting the girl, saving the day, and riding off into the sunset!. Example: 'National Treasure 1" A good film!. But no one is allowed to solve a puzzle other than Nick Cage's character!. NO ONE!. No one else can even touch a button or turn a key!. OF COURSE he's going to get the girl, save the day, and ride off into the sunset!. Good movie - last 30 minutes so predictable you can write it yourself!.
And that gets old after a while, yes!?
From this ending viewers must create their own resolution, their own ending, their own story, their own interpretation!.
So the lazy ones who want to be spoon-fed their every waking thought are whining that it's not the stereotypical ending!.

Remember!.!.!.the movie began as if were "already in progress", we were just the "observer of events " so to speak!. we were observing a day in the life of!.!.!. those characters!. So, just as it began (not knowing what happened before the discovery of the drug deal gone wrong) and not knowing what happens to the sheriff after everyone is dead is just that: observing the events that took place in someone's life!. Example: let's say you go to the mall and sit in the fast food area just to relax and observe!. You see or hear something that catches your attention!. So what do you do!?!?!? you continue to observe to "see" the "outcome" if any!. Ex: a girl on the phone with her boyfriend,suddenly gets up and leaves crying!.!.!.!.you ASSUME the couple had an argument,but you'll never know because she left(it could have been bad news: illness, death, etc!.!.!.) you were just the observer at that particular moment!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I can't tell you because I have no idea myself, even though I watched it!. I just hated the end of that movie, it was so good all the way through, then the ending was just crap and left me feeling disappointed!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
