It's actually set in the Cold War and in order to comfort herself because of the great stress of the threat of nuclear war she goes to the fridge and pigs out on chocolate icecream!. After she accidentally locks herself in there a nuclear bomb goes off and she survives because the fridge is lead-lined!.
