When I was a kid I remember it taking forever for movies to come out on vhs, and then up until recently i also took awhile to go to dvd!. Ive noticed Cloverfield came out quickly!. Why is that!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

good question!. a lot of it has to do with the changing face of movie watchers!. Less people are going to theatres, and more movies are being produced!. i remember a time not too long ago when movies would be in theatres 20+ weeks!. now, if a movie makes it 10 weeks in theatres, its done very well!. theatres need to clear screens to get new movies out!. the studios, to make up for lost theatre revenue, release movies to DVD earlier, to maximize revenues!.
don't buy the technology explanation- DVD technology has been around for over a decade, and the trend of lighting-quick DVD release (Usually 3 months now) is only in the last 2 years or so!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Piracy!. They are getting them out quicker to stop the bootleggers from taking all their money beforehand!.
Have you also noticed that movies runs in theatres are shorter!? It used to be successful movies were in theatres for at least 8 weeks, usually closer to 12!. Nowadays, movies like Iron Man will be all but out of the theatres after this weekend (Hulk Opens)!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I really think things are coming out so much faster because the demand is much greater now!. also there is a lot more choices, more movies are being made now than ever before!. so in order to keep up they pretty much are marketing the movie for dvd!. adding the bonus features ect* that could be wrong but its my theory!.
also if a movie really bombs in the theater, it goes to DVD a lot faster!. because the sales of the dvd, can boost the film as well!. so if a movie bombs in the box office it can still make earnings from Rentles and sales!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Technology is the key! People can download pirated copies rather than waiting so to combat that, studios release movies to DVD sooner in the hopes that people will buy them rather then download them - and it works to!. Not always, real pirates will always be pirates but someone who is just really excited to see a movie and isn't usually pirate will buy it rather than download!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
