Question: August Rush symbolism!?
I'm writing a breif critical review paper on the movie August Rush!.
I'm working on some interpretative things that I am trying to keep brief!.
There is an obvious symbolism between music and relationships in this movie!. The parents meet through music, the boy inherits this gift through his parents, and music is what unites the family in the end!. It is when they are not together that none of them play their instruments, and playing their music is the circumstance that brings each of them back together!.
I think the major themes of this movie have to do with talents, not giving up, and family and love!. There is this tie between the music that brings all of the other themes together!.

The boy is in tune with the sounds of life all around him and it comes out of him all at once and in the form of a symphony!.
His mother has a classical beaty to her and to her music!.
His father has a more contemporary sound and a more contemporary lifestyle!.
The boy is searching for them both hoping that his notes tell them where and who he truly is!.
You can tie into this the idea that life is one great symphony and lucky are we that can add our own notes to the arangement!.
An interesting question is did the boy have any original notes of his own or was he merely able to project the notes of everyone around him including the parents he has never met!.
One thing you did not seem to pick up on was the similarity between this movie and the musical "Oliver" as in Oliver Twist!. Robin Williams' character is like Fagan and August's friend is the Artful Dodger!. You could examine this if you want to take your paper in another direction!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
